Moreover, a single design can network out to all of the latter from one source. This tool will assist you in designing superlative screenshots for Android and iOS – compatible with all Apple and Android devices. Here are some of the tactics and tools that work best: 1. It provides insight that there’s no substitute for reviewing, redesigning, and optimizing your app’s screenshots to meet segment requirements.Ī methodically executed app store screenshot design lies at the root of every successful ASO strategy. The net result was that they achieved close to a 33% jump in downloads by relying on the test metrics and making adjustments accordingly. In a real-life situation, the company Fifty-Three used a SplitMetrics A/B testing platform to evaluate screenshots with Chinese localization in mind. What about “read more” buttons positioned at the end of a teaser? Did you know that only 2% of users follow that carefully laid route? It boils down to the fact that appealing screenshots generally are the key deciders, determining whether prospects progress or abandon the customer journey. On the contrary, your audience generally relies on impulse and emotions to guide their decisions. It’s also notable that lengthy app descriptions don’t play into most customers’ behavior patterns. Consequently, optimized screenshots that jump off the page are crucial to your ultimate success. However, even if your app appears prominently, people tend to go straight to the screenshots for a first impression. Natural searches massively influence the process of discovering apps on Google and other search engines – we all know that. Why are the app screenshots so important?īecause your App Store Optimization depends on it. The three Simian Slams are the only moves at Cranky's Lab that apply to every Kong. Subway Surfers is certainly worth a try, especially since it is free, but it might not keep you coming back for more like other titles in the genre. However, at the end of the day these visuals don't do much to mask the game's main flaws. The game's eye-catching visuals and engaging style set it apart in a crowded field. There's no denying that Subway Surfer is gorgeous to look at. This isn't a great alternative, because playing an endless runner without any sort of beat in the background isn't all that fun. Unfortunately, you'll probably find yourself muting the music entirely to keep from being driven completely crazy. Especially for an endless runner, engaging music is important given that the objective is to stay alive for as long as possible. This lack of variety in the music is a bit disappointing given the variety present in the game's other aspects. The game's monotonous soundtrack certainly contributes to the feeling of an endurance test. After a time, you'll start to recognize the game's patterns, which removes any real sense of skill or urgency. You may want to keep playing to unlock new items, but the gameplay itself isn't really much to write home about.Īfter a while, playing becomes more of an endurance test than anything. There isn't really a skill curve, so once you get the hang of playing there's no real sense of challenge to keep the game itself engaging. Jumpy frames may lead to an unintended and frustrating game-over, or keep you from finishing a daily challenge if you miss a dodge due to a framerate issue.īeyond that, Subway Surfers isn't hugely difficult. Otherwise, this may be a minor gripe, but framerate issues in an endless runner can seriously detract from gameplay. Chief among these flaws is the game's framerate issues. Subway Surfers does have quite a lot going for it as a free downloadable app, but that surface style masks a few major flaws. You can get a crew together with your friends and compete for the highest score. As an added bonus, Snapchat users should check out a multiplayer Subway Surfers mode available via the app. In addition to the challenge modes, you can also take a looser approach and give the Arcade Mode a try. The challenges put the focus on endurance, so you'll want to keep on running. The game's rotating slate of daily challenges will also keep you coming back for more. You'll want to keep on going so you can unlock that next item or character. It's easy to play in short bursts if you've got a bit of time on your hands, but you might also find yourself getting lost in long binging sessions as you dodge the oncoming trains and ride the rails over and over. Easier controls mean you can stay alive longer, and thus, keep on playing.īoth of these factors contribute to how addicting this game is. Visuals aside, the simple controls also set the game apart, making for a much more intuitive experience. You'll take to the chase and escape from the law all in gorgeous HD graphics. There's always something new and engaging to look at, and you'll want to keep on playing just so you can keep taking in those eye-catching visuals seeing all the new characters and content that you can unlock. The cartoony HD graphics and bright environments are a huge draw, making it easy to lose yourself in the world of Subway Surfers. It's definitely safe to say that Subway Surfers' major strong point is the visual style. The real-money aspects of the game aren't at the forefront, and it avoids the pay-to-win feel that some other free-to-play apps fall into. Though paying up does make the game slightly easier, you won't be missing much if you'd rather save your cash. Though Subway Surfers is of course totally free, players that want to spend real-life currency can buy additional in-game cosmetics and power-ups. You'll also be able to unlock new characters like Tricky & Fresh, and there's an entire library of custom cosmetic content to select from. You'll gather coins as you run, which you can cash in on powerups like jetpacks or hoverboards that will get you farther and help dodge obstacles.Īnother unique style change is the ability to customize the power-ups as well, using unique skins like the Jive Outfit that can be unlocked during gameplay. This improved game-feel is aided by the game's slate of powerups. It's an ostensibly small difference but leads to a much better game-feel overall. The swipe-to-move mechanic is a welcome change from screen-tilting mechanics in competitors like Temple Run, giving you way more precision and control over your movements. Gameplay is pretty standard for an endless runner: Jake will keep running forward while you swipe left and right to dodge obstacles in your path. I wont go into much details about the other options I evaluated but I will explain in the next section why you should not use Backblaze as this would be the obvious choice for most people. In the rest of this article I will outline my reasoning for choosing Arq. Restoration via Client: If I want to restore data I want to restore my files via the client back to the original local and not have to rely on a web download or the delivery of a hard drive.Īfter in investigating several different softwares products for backup I ended up choosing Arq.This means the software needs to be able to allow to multiple backup storage locations. One solution: I like to have a online backup as well as local backups (for redundancy and speed I want to have backups on local storage).Fast Backups: The backup should be fast and not unnecessarily limited (at some point you will run into limits with everything but 100 kB/s is does not seem reasonable to me).In this section, I lay out my requirements for an ideal backup solution. Requirementsīackup solutions are very subjective. This is clearly excessive and not necessary if you look at other backup systems.įor all these reasons I decided to investigate an alternative backup strategy. Crasplan’s official recommendation is to allocate 1GB of memory for every TB of data you have. The real problems seem to be with the design and the fact that Crashplan will hold a lot of data in memory. If you do not know what that means don’t worry it’s complete nonsense and you can ignore these statements, Java is plenty fast and more than suitable for this kind of job. You will find plenty of people out there complaining Crashplan is bad because is not “native” but written in Java and therefore has bad performance. With the latest update, the block synchronization was trigger at least once a week which meant that you could not backup your data for days and if for whatever reason one of my external hard drives got disconnected the whole process started all over again.Īnother issue that started becoming more prominent is resource consumption. But if you have a large amount of data this process can take days. I understand the importance of verifying the data against the backup. The second issue was related to the never-ending block synchronization. Either way, this only shows that you are at Crashplan’s mercy. I don’t know if this was because I uploaded less data recently or whether that is a permanent change. Lately, it seemed that the speed issue got better (at least for my rather slow connection). In the last major update, Crashplan removed the config files all together and one had to resort to some “creative solutions” to change the settings. This option was later removed but the setting was still changeable via the configuration file. Early versions of Crashplan had a GUI option to select the level of de-duplication. The fix for this problem was to disable the de-duplication. Coincidentally this in is about the 10GB per day that Crashplan quotes on their webpage. I am not sure if there are technical reasons for this but the speed was pretty constant regardless of which corner of the world I backing up my data. In my case, I ended up getting upload speeds of ~100kB/s. The usual issues were related to being de-duplication turned on. Historically Crashplan was not known for being the fastest backup system out there. The first issue is related to the uploaded speed. Over these years through Code 42, the company behind Crashplan, make a bunch of changes that it unbearable to use. I have been using Crashplan for the better for at least half a decade and wrote several posts about it. Wise System Monitor is a decent tool for monitoring your system resources.
